This is an illustration from Stina Persson. I really like the integration of watercolor within her work and thought this would be a good place to start. I have tried doing work like this in the past except without using photoshop and only working on watercolor paper. The three things I want to take away from this excersize is
1. Replicating the pen drawing
2. Replicating the watercolor brushstrokes
3. Replicating the randomness of color that watercolor has
Yes yes, I was thinking about doing some watercolor-like stuff at some point as well; I'd definitely like to see how you work this. Maybe do the color parts in b/w value and then use overlay for color? If you scanned in some actual watercolor paper I'm guessing you might be able to apply that somehow as well?
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea, I love it. Also I would try experimenting with different utensil mediums other thank ink too.
ReplyDeleteMike, looks like it will work. I would go ahead and re-do the ink, both illustrator with the blob brush and photoshop can handle it. The watercolor part would work best in Painter, but some dual brushes can do it in photoshop. I'll see what kind of demo I can work up. Watercolor is one of the hardest things to replicate.
ReplyDeleteI saw the lecture about the blob brush and was really excited to use it, however some difficulties arose. My wacom tablet is arguing with my mac and not wanting to work and the blob brush is new with CS4 so I am out of luck on that one since I am running CS3.
ReplyDeleteI have some ideas on how to make this work, but today I have mainly been trying to fix my technical problems. I am hoping to have this master study done by tonight. I will also dig up some watercolor paper and experiment with that as well.
Its a very nice painting. I'm thinking about Watercolor also for my second project. Good luck with it
ReplyDeletePlease see the demo I did in the July 2nd Announcements for some Painter Watercolor demos. I will try to do some for Photoshop too.
